Calendula & Rose Cleansing Grains

September 19, 2015

Sometimes the simplest things are the best things. I personally don't think that facial cleansers need to be harsh, or stripping, or full of strong detergents in order to do a good job.

When I was younger, I habitually used really harsh cleansers. My skin was on the oily side, and like many teenagers, I had some acne. I hated it and believed I needed to get all the oil off my face. I remember using so many drugstore cleansers, and spending so much money, only to have my skin react by producing more oil (at the time I didn’t know that stripping natural oils causes your skin to produce more oils to overcompensate… leading to more skin problems). Now that I’m older and wiser, I realize how harsh I was on my skin. I wish more young kids that struggle with skin issues realize that the cycle of stripping your skins natural oils is only going to make your body produce more.

Nowadays I much prefer gentle yet effective cleansers. Our cleansing grains are just that, simple, gentle, and effective. Let’s face it, the vast majority of us lead relatively sedentary lives. We’re not working in the fields all day, getting covered with dirt and grime most days (most of us anyways). I believe we don’t need harsh cleansers with lots of complicated ingredients.

Calendula, rose, oats, goat milk powder. No more, no less. Simple, clean, effective and safe. Calendula and rose are wonderful for aging or drier skin. Goat’s milk powder has naturally occuring lactic acid, which gently exfoliates. Oats have saponins in them, a mild cleansing agent.

Mix 1/4 – 1/2 tsp of the grains with a bit of water to make a paste. Clean your face and neck and rinse off. You can also mix the grains with a bit of honey to make an indulgent mask.

That’s it! Safe, simple, effective. Plus, you have no worries about plastic microbeads entering your waterways.
