It’s Earth Day this week! We aim to be more earth friendly on a regular basis, making small but important changes that just become part of our day-to-day routine. This year, we hope to inspire you to make positive changes for the benefit of the environment, whether that change is incremental or a complete transformation, so that earth day becomes a daily celebration. Here are some of our favourite products to reduce our ecological footprint in the bathroom:
It’s not news that many shampoos and soaps on the market contain toxic ingredients, even though some appeal to consumers with green-washed branding. Though we talk a lot about putting these chemicals on our skin, we are also flushing these toxins down our drain and into our waterways.
We use shampoo and soap from Pep Soap Co., a local Port Moody manufacturer that uses all sustainable and organic ingredients, and Buck Naked Soap Company, a manufacturer from Ontario who is committed to making all-natural and vegan products. We also use the ever-useful Dr. Bronner’s all-one pure castile soap (even in our homemade handsoap!) and don’t waste with unnecessary body washes.
Did you know that every piece of plastic ever made is still in existence? We talked about eco-friendly dental care before. We use bamboo toothbrushes from Kelowna-based company, Brush Naked. You can choose between with plant-based bristles so that your toothbrush is fully compostable or BPA-free polymer or recyclable DuPont nylon bristles that can be broken off when you’re done so you can compost the wand. We also use plastic-free dental floss in a recyclable cardboard container like from Eco-Dent and make our own toothpaste (see how here!).
With your monthly menstrual cycle, you can make a commitment to reduce your ecological footprint by using reusable products. Cloth pads (and period panties!) by Luna Pads and the menstrual cup by Diva Cup allow for a zero-waste period.
